| The home’s policy on in-house
and community based activities takes into account the
individual resident’s interests, skills, experiences,
personality, medical condition and assessed needs. The
home offers a wide range of activities designed to encourage
the resident to maintain mobility, and most importantly
take an interest in life and gain new experiences.
As far as possible each day, residents are provided
with opportunities for community access through visits
to the local shops, nearby town or participating in
recreational activities. There are also opportunities
to engage in a purposeful range of activities designed
to ensue that the social, leisure, work and therapeutic
needs of each person is properly met. Residents may
attend the local church services, visit a variety of
local amenities, concert halls and cinemas in Colchester,
Clacton, Ipswich and Harwich, enrol in local college
courses of interest and visit local public houses, cafes
and restaurants. Access is also available to trampoline
for the disabled, disabled riding which has facilities
for both independent and dependent wheelchair users
and the local library as well as a drive around the
countryside or coast.
All outings into community settings are geared to individual
resident’s needs and capabilities and as a result,
a limited number of residents can go at any one time
in order for the care staff to be able to provide the
appropriate levels of support required.
Should any resident show the potential for open or supported
employment, then every encouragement and assistance
will be provided towards achieving that aim.
Staff encourage and in certain instances help individual
resident’s to pursue their hobbies and interests.
